1. Mod Compatibility: The largest mods (GregTech, IC2, Botania, Railcraft, etc.) are stable on 1.12.2. Many modded dimensions (The Nether, The End, The Betweenlands, The Twilight Forest) are exceptionally dark. A Fullbright pack makes them playable without spamming torches every two blocks.
2. Performance: 1.12.2 runs on older or low-end hardware much better than 1.16+. A lightweight texture pack won't hurt your FPS.
3. Resource Pack Format: Version 1.12.2 uses a simple, well-documented resource pack structure (version 3). Creating and editing packs is trivial compared to the newer, stricter pack.mcmeta formats.
