Hino F21C Engine Manual: Your Complete Technical Guide
Oil Capacity (w/ Filter): Approximately 14.5 Liters (15.3 US quarts).
Oil Specification: CF-4/SG or higher, 15W-40 (subject to climate).
Pro Mechanic Tip:
If you buy a PDF, ensure it includes the "Sl-2" supplement. Hino released many running changes for the F21C in 2002 regarding the EGR valve. A generic 1998 manual will not cover the 2002 EGR calibration.
- Every 500–1,000 km or daily (fleet): Visual inspection—leaks, belts, coolant level, warning lights.
- Every 5,000–10,000 km or 250 hours: Engine oil & filter change; check air filter; inspect fan belt; top up fluids.
- Every 20,000 km or 1,000 hours: Replace fuel filter; inspect and clean air intake system; inspect valve cover gasket and coolant hoses.
- Every 40,000 km or 2,000 hours: Replace air filter element; check valve clearance; inspect turbocharger (if fitted); drain and replace coolant if recommended by OEM.
- Every 80,000–120,000 km or 4,000–6,000 hours: Major service—injector cleaning/calibration, timing belt replacement (if interference engine), water pump, full coolant flush, in-depth inspection of pistons, rings, cylinder bores (if compression low).
- As needed: Replace timing belt/chain per OEM interval—do not exceed recommended replacement interval.
The Case for Digital PDF Manuals:
- Check for oil, coolant, fuel leaks.
- Confirm belts not glazed or cracked; tension correct.
- Air filter element condition; cleaning indicator (if present).
- Battery terminals secure and clean.
- Start engine cold—note unusual noises, smoke color (blue = oil burn, white = coolant/fuel dilution, black = rich fuel or clogged air intake).
- Observe oil pressure gauge and coolant temperature after start.
The F21C engine is a high-performance diesel propulsion system designed primarily for heavy-duty applications. It is most commonly found in Hino Profia (Dolphin) trucks. Hino F21c Engine Manual
