Maintaining a current digital library is essential for effective Bible study and ministry. To ensure the JW Library app runs smoothly, your device must meet specific hardware and software criteria.
- Windows: Supports external SD cards and USB drives. Go to Settings → Storage location.
- Android: Requires Android 6.0+ “Adoptable Storage” to move app data to SD card. On Samsung devices, you can move only media files.
- iOS: No external storage support. Use “Offload Unused Publications” in Settings > General > iPhone Storage.
However, to ensure smooth performance—especially offline video playback, seamless note synchronization, and rapid search indexing—your device must meet specific hardware and software criteria.
macOS
: Native support is available for Macs with Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3 chips) via the Mac App Store. Intel-based Macs may require third-party solutions or use the Watchtower Library desktop application instead.
- OS Version: Windows 10 (version 15063.0 or higher) or Windows 11.
- Architecture: x64, x86, ARM64.
- Memory (RAM): Minimum 4 GB recommended (8 GB preferred for smooth video playback and multi-tasking).
- Storage: Highly variable. The base app is small (<500 MB), but downloaded publications can occupy 10 GB to 50+ GB depending on the user's download habits (video files consume the most space). An SSD (Solid State Drive) is highly recommended for faster search indexing.
- Standalone Version: Users unable to use the Microsoft Store can download the "JW Library UWP" standalone package, which requires the same OS specifications.
