Note: Tuning is hardware-specific. Always benchmark before and after.
2. Filename Deconstruction
- Change admin password and create an admin account if needed.
- Configure WAN with static or DHCP; set gateway monitoring.
- Set DNS servers (System → General Setup) and configure DNS forwarding if desired.
- Configure firewall rules: start with minimal open ports on WAN; allow LAN to any out by default.
- Configure NAT as needed (automatic outbound NAT is default; switch to manual if required).
- Enable SSH only if needed and prefer public-key auth; change SSH port if desired.
- Install packages you need: pfBlockerNG, Suricata/Zeek, WireGuard/OpenVPN, HAProxy, etc.
