X-Plane 12 A380 — Full Review and Guide
- Power & takeoff: Use appropriate flex or takeoff thrust, monitor N1 and V speeds; rotate later than a light jet—expect longer ground roll.
- Climb: Monitor vertical speed and accelerate to climb schedule; manage pressurization and pack configurations on long climbs.
- Cruise: Use LNAV/VNAV with managed speeds when FMGS available; plan step climbs for fuel efficiency.
- Descent & approach: Begin descent early; heavy jets have long descent profiles. Use speed brakes and spoilers carefully; auto-brake and reverse thrust are essential for short runways.
- Landing: Stabilize on approach with proper landing speeds (add increments for wind/weight). Expect significant float if landing fast—aim for firm but controlled touchdown and deploy reversers promptly.
- Visuals: The cockpit textures and cabin modeling are shockingly good for freeware.
- Performance: Surprisingly light on FPS. You won't melt your GPU.
- Sound: With the optional KOSP sound pack, the roar of the Trent 900s is visceral.
Systems
: The payware version features functional system pages (HYD, FUEL, ELEC) and taxi camera displays to help navigate large airports. Community Verdict
