He had spent hours connecting wires, configuring settings, and rearranging furniture to accommodate his new Yamaha HTR-3065 receiver. As he settled in to enjoy a movie with his family, he noticed a notification on the receiver's display indicating that a firmware update was available.

Step 0: Check Your Current Firmware Version
Note:
A factory reset will erase all your settings (speaker calibration, input assignments, network passwords). Write them down first. Yamaha Htr 3065 Firmware Update
Try a different USB drive. Some older receivers are picky about the brand or capacity of the drive (stick to 16GB or smaller if possible).
If the unit freezes, wait 15 minutes. If it does not recover, you may need to contact Yamaha support for recovery instructions.
Step 4: Perform the Update
Download firmware to a PC, unzip if necessary, and copy the file to a FAT32-formatted USB drive.
Insert USB into receiver’s USB port.
Access Setup > System > Firmware Update > USB and follow prompts.
